Rêverie
Debussy's Rêverie — I came across it again recently. Debussy was one of the first composers I loved when I started listening to classical music. Over the years my taste has shifted, and these days I lean more toward the German/Austrian composers, Beethoven especially. But hearing this piece again today still felt wonderful: listening to it, I felt like I was drifting inside a dream, or daydreaming in the middle of the day. I hope I'll always be able to make time for the things I love. Performance by Bruce Liu below.

Clair de Lune
Debussy's Clair de Lune — the third movement of Suite bergamasque. He first sketched it around 1890, but it wasn't settled into the version we know today until the suite was published in 1905. The title comes from a Paul Verlaine poem of the same name, and Debussy used shifting harmonies and rippling arpeggios to capture that hazy, luminous feeling of moonlight falling across water — it's his most widely loved piece, and the one most often performed on its own. This clip was recorded in Shanghai in October 2022, and only the first half survives.
